Finalists in the Doing Good in Business Awards

On 7 November, we attended the Wakefield Business Awards where we were shortlisted in the Doing Good in Business category. This category was in recognition of the good work that businesses do, supporting good causes and communities and generally going above and beyond to help others.

We were delighted to have been shortlisted (we’ve won plenty of CAMRA awards in the past but never a business award!) and this particular category meant a lot as we do our best to raise money for local charities and causes, as well as others in the trade (our philosophy when it comes to hospitality businesses in our local areas is that we do well when we all do well).

The event was very glamorous and 12 of us representing all the pubs and head office, donned our finest for the occasion.

And the winner is…

Sadly it wasn’t us, but we want to extend a big congratulations to the winner, Juice Personnel, and the other finalists, The Yorkshire Broker and En Route Hair & Beauty. While we would have loved to win, it didn’t detract from our enjoyment of the event, and we got some great feedback from the judges the following day. This included comments about our strong company strategy and clear aims. We were especially pleased to get this comment from one judge:

“I liked the focus on community and innovative and creative ideas to promote not only their own business, but the competition in order to bring communities together and attract visitors – I particularly liked the leaflets.”

This was in reference to the Huddopoly and Horbury Serving Map, which were the pub crawl leaflets that we created for Huddersfield and Horbury. They involved multiple pubs in those areas working together to produce something that benefitted everyone.

It was a fantastic event, created by We Are Wakefield and we had a great time, as you can see from these photos! However, we’d really like to thank our staff, who are the ones doing all the hard work raising money and awareness for some wonderful charities including Project Youth Cancer, RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, and Bradford, and Support Dogs for Autism, for Epilepsy, for Disability.
