The West Riding is the flagship pub of the Beerhouses family as this is where it all began in 1994 when founder, Mike Field, saw the potential in transforming a disused waiting room at Dewsbury Railway Station into a real ale pub. His inspiration was Stalybridge Buffet Bar – the railway pub at Stalybridge station where he’d spent many hours drinking in while a student.
Despite knowing nothing about running a pub, and everyone thinking that he was quite mad, the ‘West’ is still going strong, serving the locals of Dewsbury and those who pass through the station, whether they be travellers on their way somewhere or dedicated Ale Trailers (who also take in Stalybridge Buffet Bar which, poetically, is also now part of the Beerhouses family)!
All Beerhouses pubs offer a great selection of cask ale, and The West Riding is famed for its various beer and music festivals, which run several times a year. It has consistently appeared in the Good Beer Guide since 1997 and has won multiple awards. We don’t just serve beer, of course. As well as a full bar offering, you can get a cup of freshly brewed coffee or a selection of teas.
Regular events include a weekly quiz night, meat raffle, monthly charity bingo, and Tuesday treats with offers changing every week.

We offer food daily, including bar snacks, pizza menu, roast dinners on a Sunday, and a hot food special on a Friday.
CREATE YOUR OWN FOOD EVENT!
You can also create your own food event and go ‘off menu’ by booking in advance. We can offer a much more diverse menu for parties of 6+ when pre-booked, including Ale Trail breakfasts, party buffets, or meals of your choice.

You can often find live music performances here at The West Riding (see our Facebook feed below or check socials) with outdoor performances on our ‘Platform 3’ stage during the summer.

Each Beerhouses pub nominates its own charities and causes who we support with events and fundraisers. The West Riding’s charity is Dewsbury Community Outreach who is a social enterprise, providing housing, health, and care.
