Get ready for the Pink Elephant party!
On Friday 1st of December, The Sportsman will celebrate its eighth annual Delirium Day, because nothing says Christmas better than pink elephants in Santa hats! Delirium Day is an annual event, celebrating this world-famous brewery’s Belgian beers with a huge pink elephant party (in homage to the distinctive Delirium brand), and launching this year’s Delirium Christmas beer.
This year, Patrick van Leijsen, Delirium’s Export Manager, is coming all the way over from Belgium to celebrate with us. Patrick will be hosting an exclusive beer tasting session in the side room. Alas, those wishing to join us for this are too late; the tickets sold out within two minutes of going on sale…faster than Glastonbury!
However, Delirium fans need not be too disappointed; Patrick will be joining the party pre- and post-tasting.
Arise Sir John!
Patrick is not the only revered ‘beer celebrity’ at the event, for Sportsman landlord, John Fletcher, has been bestowed with a great honour. In August, John was invited to visit Huyghe brewery, the brewers of the Delirium beers. Here he was ordained an Honourable Knight of The Brotherhood of the Pink Elephant in recognition of The Sportsman’s promotion and exceptional conditioning of Delirium products. This has not gone to his head in the slightest.
Tis the season for Delirium Christmas…
Delirium Christmas is a lovely chestnut coloured ale, complex, with flavours of caramel malt, fruit, spices and the sweetness of the alcohol…it comes in at a hefty 10% ABV, so it’s not for the faint hearted.
As well as Delirium Christmas, the rest of the Delirium range will be on offer including some rarer beers and Delirium Christmas from previous years that has been matured in The Sportsman’s cellar.
Delirium Day has been held at The Sportsman on the 1st of December every year since 2015. It is free and open to everyone who wants to drink great Belgian beer!
