The Beerhouses extended family!
Our twinned pubs across the world
Beerhouses is what we like to call a ‘boutique’ pub group – enough to make our mark as a collective but each retaining its own character and far from a homogenous chain. However, we do have something of an extended family; sisters from another mister that we have formed connections with from lands afar.
These are all pubs and bars that we have some personal connections to. They’re also places that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend should you be travelling in the area.

The West Riding & ‘t Brugs Beertje
‘t Brugs Beertje is renowned the beer-world over for its range and quality and felt like a natural fit when Beerhouses founder, Mike Field, established our partnership way back in 1996 in the very early days of the West Riding. It was opened in 1983 by Daisy Claes with the unusual proposition of not selling pils. Sarah, who took over Beerhouses from Mike, visited the pub in 2008, where she worked her way through more of the beers than she really cares to remember, and Daisy kindly came over to help judge the first Dewsbury CAMRA Beer Festival in 2010.
Now expertly run by Dries Broukaert, it has 300 Belgian beers on the menu, including 6 draught lines, and is loved by locals and tourists alike in its prime spot on Kemelstraat in central Brugge.

CZECH REPUBLIC
The West Riding & ‘t Puub
Our connection to t’ Puub in Czech Republic began 20 years ago, way before t’ Puub was even conceived! The West Riding’s twinship with t’ Puub is really the story of the friendship between Sarah and Mili.
Having arrived in the UK from Czechia in the early 2000s, Mili travelled around but only felt truly at home when she settled in Yorkshire. One day, she wandered into the West for a beer and was promptly hired. Beerhouses owner, Sarah returned from her own travels in Australia to find Mili running the pub and an instant friendship was struck up with Mili moving into Sarah’s home for a while where they bonded over a shared love of beer, Yahtzee, and Tatratea!
Mili returned to Czechia, but they remained connected (Sarah even drove 2 pins of beer brewed at The Sportsman over for a beer festival Mili was running).
In 2014, Sarah revived ‘Westival’, a beer and music festival at the West that hadn’t run for a few years. Her genius idea was to invite former colleagues back to help out over the weekend. Mili came for the festival and didn’t go home, moving back in with her bestie and staying for 3 years!
Marek, Mili’s longtime friend from back home, then came out to the UK, learning English and working at The Sportsman and then various breweries, including Saltaire and WILD before returning to Brno and starting his own brewery, Thrills. In 2021, Mili joined him to help get Thrills off the ground before opening t’ Puub and the following year, Sarah went over to brew a beer with them. Given their intertwined stories, what other pub could t’ Puub be twinned with than the West Riding?
