Our journey started back in 1994 when empty railway buildings at Dewsbury train station were revamped into what is now the West Riding. In the years that followed The West gained a reputation for great real ale and top class service, values that are still at the core of what we do today.
Each of our venues are independent in their own right and have their own identity. We most definitely aren’t a pub chain. Each pub does however share the brand values of Beerhouses which is to serve the best products, have great service, be inclusive & welcoming to all and to promote local & independent.
The West Riding
Situated in the original waiting room, on Platform 2, of Dewsbury train station The West Riding was the first member of the beerhouses family, born back in January 1994, it’s our flagship pub and mothership of the group, it’s success and experience has been passed on to the other pubs in the group.
The Sportsman takes the classic British Boozer and brings it bang up to date. With its beautiful Art Deco interior we’ve restored the original feature to their former glory. We won English Heritage Pub Design Awards in 2010. A great pub needs great beer and The Sportsman clearly delivers on this count.
The Cricketers BeerhouseCask & Craft beerhouse in Horbury, Wakefield. This multi-award winning pub has a fine reputation for serving top quality beers with a smile. The Cricketers is also has the benefit or a brand new covered outside beergarden.
Stalybridge Beerhouse & Buffet BarStep back in time & visit one of the very few remaining Victorian station buffet bars. A very special place that specialises in high quality cask & craft beer showcasing the very best brewers the UK has to offer.
Formally The Old Turk, the Terrace has been fully updated during 2021. Acquired in October 2014. The Terrace is now a live events & private hire venue, a covered and heated outdoor area makes The Terrace an ideal venue for watching events or even hiring for your own parties.
The County Beerhouse
Freshly refurbished in a contemporary style with an Art Deco twist, six handpumps dispense beers sourced from Yorkshire in addition to some great craft beers and cocktails. Very handy for a drink after an event in Huddersfield Town Hall.
We have a dedication to our products and service is echoed through Our Pledge:
If you are not 100% happy with your beer we will gladly exchange it. Please ask for a ‘taster’ to help you find a drink you like. Drinks – especially Beer cover a vast array of tastes and flavours and we are especially keen to encourage people to check out real ale who perhaps have not tried it before, especially women and younger people as beer is for everyone. So do not be shy, let the bar staff know what flavours / tastes you like and ask to be introduced to some beers that will satisfy those tastes.
